Annual Quilt Show
Bayberry Quilters of Cape Cod host their 3-day annual show each summer at the Cape Cod Regional Technical High School in Harwich. The show features about 300 quilts in a variety of styles, techniques and sizes; special exhibitions highlighting the work of two accomplished Guild members; and an exhibit of quilts by area youth. The show is not juried; ribbons are awarded through a Viewer's Choice ballot. "Golden Stork" pins are awarded to members who commit to completing an unfinished project by show time. The theme challenge, always a popular feature of the Show, is announced several months preceding it.
Each show has a chosen theme - past themes have been Flights of Fancy, Silver Reflections, Once Upon a Quilt, and Stitches in Time. The 2008 theme is "Sweet Dreams", playing with dual themes of candy, cookies and other sweets, and the dreams we experience while sleeping under a beautiful quilt. The 2008 show will be held on:
Thursday - July 31, 9:30 to 4:00
Friday - August 1, 9:30 to 4:00
Saturday - August 2, 9:30 to 3:00
Admission: $6.00 / 1 Day Pass
$10.00 / 3 Day Pass
The 2008 show will include: a vendor mall featuring about 25 fabric and craft vendors; scheduled lectures and demonstrations by experts; a "Kids Can Sew" corner; where kids receive some instruction while working on a project they take with them; a working display and "tie in" presented by the Quilt Bank; a boutique with great items made and donated by members for sale; a silent auction; a raffle featuring a handmade quilt; and "Bayberry in Action" where members demonstrate techniques. Lunch, coffee, cold drinks and snacks, catered by Dennis restaurant Morrell's, will be available for purchase. Certified quilt appraiser Vivien Sayre will perform appraisals for a fee.
To enter a quilt in the show you must be a member, and registrations are due May 1st each year. Registration forms are printed annually in the guild's March newsletter.
